With regard to investor relations and public relations, if your website is new or you have just undertaken a strategy to get found and build your presence online, there is more you can do to help yourself. Imagine your business website as being in a rural location... What would happen to your business if you had a store in a busy location like a mall?
This is the theory behind digital media/social media; a presence for our client companies in high traffic locations. According to this blog in Mashable, there will be 18 million Twitter users by the end of 2010. If Facebook were a country, it would be the 4th largest (over 250 million users) in the world. YouTube has in excess of 100 million users...
Furthermore, out of the 1.4 BILLION Internet users worldwide, approximately 70% of all Internet users, use social media platforms and tools.
Building your company's presence on social media platforms is very important; if you are not taking advantage of the huge, built-in audience, you are missing a fantastic opportunity.
Here are some specific examples of how to use digital/social media and its platforms:
- If you have a Company Presentation (slide show) you can host it on SlideShare which as of December, 2008 had over one million registered users. Furthermore, you can categorize and tag your presentation to make it much more visible!
- If you have a company video, host it on Youtube; again, you can categorize and tag your video to make it much more visible to individuals searching for the services or products your company offers.
- Use a Twitter account to offer customer service or answer questions about your company's products and/or services.
One important point about social media and its platforms- you must use them correctly in order to be effective. Using a Twitter or Facebook account as nothing more than a broadcasting platform will yield no good results for you.
